Made by trainees learning the traditional craft of wood turning, the Apprentice Lamp is built from an assortment of turned sections made from reclaimed wood. The complexity of each section is dependent on the experience and ability of the trainee, increasing in difficulty as their skills improve. With no 2 sections identical, an infinite variety of lamps are possible.
By demonstrating the development and improvement of trainees' abilities as they progress from complete beginners to accomplished turners, the Apprentice Lamp supports a sense of achievement and enjoyment in learning new skills. Training placements help to combat social exclusion, improve self-esteem, confidence and team-working - contributing towards the individual's development and enhancing employability.
